Tours of Riordan Mansion

First opened in 1983, Riordan Mansion State Historic Park is a house built in 1904 by two brothers, Michael and Timothy Riordan. The mansion is actually comprised of two separate homes connected by a common area known as the billiard room. Originally built with hot and cold running water, central heat, and electricity, and designed by Charles Wittlesey, the architect for Hotel El Tovar at the Grand Canyon, the house is an excellent example of American Arts and Crafts Architecture. Our hours from May through October are from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with guided tours beginning at 9:00 a. m.; and 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from November to April, with tours beginning at 11:00am. Guided tours last about an hour and are the only way to see the inside of the mansion. Admission is six dollars for adults; $2.50 for youth (7-13), and six and under are free.

Crawdad Festival
August 24

Slow Food Alta Arizona and the Grand Canyon Wildlands Council are joining forces to host a local foods and environmental awareness celebration at Ft. Tuthill County Park in Flagstaff (Exit 337 off I-17). Slow Food is dedicated to the importance of wholesome, locally produced food and sustainable food systems. The Grand Canyon Wildlands Council works to protect wildlife corridors and habitat. While crawdads are tasty and nutricious, they are an invasive species in our region and threaten the native fish. So, we decided to present our separate messages in a celebration that makes the most of both our efforts. We will be boiling crawdads harvested from northern Arizona waters, along with potatoes and corn. We will have beer donated from local breweries and live music. We will be at the Maricopa Ramada from 3pm to 7pm on August 24. Donation $15 person.
